Undergraduate Admissions
Once you have been admitted to Western Michigan University and have settled in, please schedule an appointment with one of our undergraduate advisors to fill out a major or minor form. You MUST submit a major form to officially become enrolled as a major.
Graduate Admissions: these steps are REQUIRED for ALL graduate applicants
- If you are an international student (either undergraduate or graduate), you will need to go to the website of the Office of International and Scholar Services. They have all of the information regarding visa and financial requirements for your study here in the USA.
- If you are a domestic student wishing to apply for a graduate program, you will need to fill out a graduate application through WMU's Graduate College. You will find an online application on this page as well as links to the Graduate Readmission Application form and the Graduate Non-Degree Application form.
- The Department of Geosciences REQUIRES a Graduate Studies Application form be submitted to the Department. It can be found at the following link.
- Three letters of recommendation are REQUIRED. Please ask your recommenders to seal the form/letter in an envelope and initial the seal before they give it back to you or before they send it to the Department. Please have your references fill out a Graduate Reference Form to accompany their letter.
- Please write a Statement of Purpose that describes what field of study you are interested in pursuing as a graduate student, why you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in geoscience, and what you would like to accomplish with an advanced degree.
- GRE scores are REQUIRED prior to admission. If you have official or unofficial scores, please send them to us with your application materials.
*To evaluate a graduate admission file, we also require copies of transcripts - but that requirement should already be noted in the University Application.
